There's an implementation called FreeTDS which is available for Unix/Linux and jTDS which is a Java implementation. Sybase Open Client is licensed per-seat and they don't provide download access to software without a valid support identifier. In advanced mode, you provide a connection string. In standard mode, you enter or select values for the server name, port, user name, and password. Select either standard or advanced connection mode. Select any of the installed Provider on the machine for connecting to the Sybase Server. Various plugins exist e.g DBDiff Plugin which lets you compare objects. DBeaver will let you do all basic DDL and DML functions, DB object script extraction etc. SQuirreL SQL Client is a graphical SQL client written in Java that will allow you to view the structure of a JDBC compliant database, browse the data in tables, issue SQL commands etc.
